Tests of species delimitation based on two methods using morphological characters were applied to seasonal killifish populations of eastern Tanzania previously identified as Nothobranchius korthausae. Two species were recognized, N. korthausae considered geographically widespread along the Mafia Island, and N. ruudwildekampi, new species, from the Mbezi River basin, which is distinguished from the former species by having minute horizontally elongated dark gray spots on the posterior portion of the pectoral fin in males, fewer reddish brown bars on the anal fin in males, more caudal-fin rays, the main condyle of the second pharyngobranchial straight, and by the absence of subdistal black bars on the unpaired fins and white distal margin on the caudal fin.
